Ventura County Wedding Venues | Natural Light & Film Wedding Photography in Southern California
Planning a wedding begins with finding the perfect location—and for couples who want a celebration full of natural beauty, warm light, and diverse venue options, Ventura County, California is absolutely worth exploring. Neighboring bustling Los Angeles County, Ventura County offers a much quieter agricultural vibe for guests and wedding couples, trading in the city and smog for orchards and farmland. If you're looking for nature in the Los Angeles area, this would be the place.
Whether you envision exchanging vows under an oak tree, on avocado lined hillside, or with your toes in the sand, Ventura County wedding venues offer something for every couple. As a Ventura County wedding photographer who shoots on both 35mm film and digital mediums, I’ve seen firsthand how this region delivers unforgettable wedding day backdrops all year round.

Why Ventura County Is a Top Wedding Destination in California
Tucked between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Ventura County blends coastal charm in cities like Oxnard and Ventura along with countryside serenity in Fillmore and Somis. Other cities like Camarillo, Ojai, Moorpark, and Simi Valley each bring their own unique flair—making this region ideal for couples who want a wedding that feels personal, outdoorsy, and effortlessly beautiful.
As a wedding photographer who specializes in natural light and film, I love how Ventura’s soft California sunlight and wide-open landscapes pair perfectly with the timeless tones of 35mm photography. You can truly create something magical here- at witnessed below!

🌿 Top Wedding Venues in Ventura County
From avocado ranches to Spanish-style villas, Ventura County offers a wide range of venues to fit every couple’s aesthetic and guest count. Here are just a few local favorites:
Gerry Ranch – Camarillo
Surrounded by blueberry fields and avocado trees, Gerry Ranch offers panoramic mountain views and wide-open skies. It’s a favorite for spring and fall weddings and looks especially dreamy on film, thanks to its warm light and dusty dirt roads.
Hartley Botanica – Somis
This hidden garden venue feels like a fairytale. With flowering vines, fountains, and lush greenery, it’s perfect for intimate garden ceremonies and romantic portrait sessions.
MANDALAY BEACH RESORT – OXNARD
For those who want a beachfront wedding, this oceanfront resort offers waves, palm trees, and sunset views—ideal for a casual, coastal celebration.
OJAI LABYRINTH – OJAI
Ojai brings an almost spiritual energy to weddings. Surrounded by mountains and wildflower fields, Ojai Valley wedding portraits are known for their golden-hour glow and peaceful backdrops, and if you're lucky the elusive Ojai pink moment.
McCormick Ranch – Camarillo
This working ranch hosts outdoor ceremonies under the trees and open-air receptions under market lights. It’s charming, rustic, and always guest-friendly.
The Vineyards – Simi Valley
With sweeping hilltop views, vine-covered archways, and elegant gardens, The Vineyards blends wine country vibes with upscale amenities.
The Walnut Grove – Moorpark
A favorite of mine for Fall weddings, this venue features oak trees, wooden fences, and golden grasses. Bonus: heat lamps for outdoor receptions make even November weddings feel cozy.
Hummingbird Nest Ranch – Simi Valley
If you’re dreaming big, Hummingbird Nest Ranch offers a luxurious, expansive setting. With Spanish architecture, mountain views, and space for large guest lists, it’s where glamour meets nature tucked right next to Los Angeles.
EDEN GARDENS- MOORPARK
Similar to Hartley Botanica, Eden Gardens feels like a secret garden right next to the 23 freeway. Plus the event coordinators at Velvet Alley Events are amazing to work with!
Year-Round Wedding Weather in Ventura County
One of the biggest perks of planning a wedding in Ventura County? The weather. With a Mediterranean climate and mild winters, this region is a dream for outdoor weddings almost any time of year. I’ve photographed December weddings with sunshine and al fresco dining, and fall ceremonies bathed in golden hour light.
Several venues, like The Walnut Grove, offer extras like fire pits or patio heaters to keep things warm in cooler months, making off-season weddings a viable (and often more affordable) option for couples looking to save some money.
Updated Photography Approach: Film & Digital
Since originally writing this post, I’ve deepened my love for film photography and now offer every wedding a hybrid approach: the timeless, nostalgic quality of 35mm film paired with the reliability and sharpness of digital. Ventura County’s soft light and earthy tones are made for film. Think: golden grass, green trees, dramatic skies—all elevated through analog texture. Film helps me tell your wedding story with an artistic and emotional lens, while digital ensures I capture every moment with reliability for key moments such as first kisses and first dances.
